What AU Is Doing to Promote Sustainable Transportation
- Free shuttles between the Metro station and campus
- Zimride online community for AU staff, students and faculty to share rides and coordinate carpools
- Electric vehicles for short trips and small jobs around campus
- Two vehicles fueled by B20 biodiesel blend (we are also researching ways to expand our biodiesel use)
- Several hybrid electric pick-up trucks
- Bikes and T3 electric vehicles for public safety officer patrols
- Zip Cars available on campus for use by students, faculty, and staff
- University-wide surveys conducted in 2008-2009 to document and calculate greenhouse gas emissions related to University commuting
- Discount on parking permits for commuters who choose to carpool (Ride Share)
- Condensed work week option is available for full time employees to reduce commuting
- The new SIS building will have indoor and secure bike storage, shower facilities, and lockers for bicycle commuters
- Student-run bike share program
- Optimization of our Metro station shuttle routes and services
- No engine idling policy
